Do you have an email for more specific questions? I would love to build myself something like this.

Thank you,

I’m planning my own DAC with the DAC Sabre 9023 + XMOS USB receiver.

I connected the two modules (via I2S) and powered them up (XMOS module via +5V from USB, Sabre module via +12V power supply). The xmos module is run via Win7 in different modes from 16 bit / 44.1 kHz up to 24 bit / 192 kHz, but I cannot here anything

Did you get them to work and to play your music?

But whats not clear for me before i can order is the PSU thing. With xmos2 usb receiver + i2s dac sabre 9023, its correct that the power from Pi isnt enogh. So i need extra psu connected to Sabre? Any suggestion what PSU to buy? Is there any ready to go or is it needed to build one from scratch DIY?

Thanks for a lovely site.

Under Linux (RaspyFi), lsusb actually shows the USB XMOS, which at least tells me that the usb connection is working. I’m having a different problem, stuttering audio issue with the combo. However, no idea how to resolve it.

I order the DAC 24192 ULN (Sellarz) and XMOS2 to I2S (DIYINHK). I’m having a different issue. The audio is stuttering, it will play approx 3 seconds, pause for anything between 0.5s and 3s (approx) and then continue to play.

I’ve tried both Windows and Linux (Raspberry), both showing the same behavior. For Windows, the audio driver provided by DIYINHK is installed.

Anyone can help with this?

I’ve tried to build the reference dac as described in the articel on this site. what I did was

# ordered the DAC 42192 and the xmos2 to i2s
# made an i2s cable with matching output to input wiring – most wires must be crossed to match pins
# made a check of the cabling using an ohm meter messuring on the solder points on the backside of the pcb – making sure every connection did match and that there was not short circuits
# made some rca connections and hooked them to my stereo
# hooked the xmos2 to my raspberry
# powered the dac using a 12v battery i’m usually using for my class d-amp
# powered up the raspberry and started a song

….. and nothing happend utterly silence … ok ….

# with the xmos2 i ordered another dac es9023 and a flat cable with matching connector – all bought from diyinhk
# hooked it up

…. again silence

# tried to install the xmos2 on the win 7 pc to see if the pc will recognize the device
# got an device could not be detected message
# received advice from diyinhk to allow unsigned drivers
# … did that but the device could not be detected

now i like to know if the xmos2 is actually working or not.

can anyone tell me

# how to test if the xmos2 is working?
# how to test if the dacs are woking even if the xmos2 is not working?
# any other advice to help me with this one?
