You also need the driver for the chip. Not sure about this one. I don't use ESS chips, because only minimal public documentation is available. They don't give distortion figures :-( I should buy one and measure it.

It seems to mak more sense to connect directly via I2S - the P5 header is the I2S header right.

Its a lot of fun trialling this inexpensive streaming solution
