I am a beginner here. Is there an appropriate place that I can ask some simple questions about raspyfi? I don't see an FAQ anywhere.

Thank you much!

diten on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p744 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p744 Well, finally I receive my XMOS2 USB -> I2S, so testing the DAC right now with the Sabre9023 (the Refernce DAC here),
"Random Access Memories" sound fantastic, even at very low volume, because my wife and son are taking a nap.

I had the Raspyfi_RC2 which had some issues with 96Khz Flacs, I downloaded the Beta and everything works like charm.
No jittering at all, even listening to 96khz Flacs (from a Nas) while rescaning the music library. I'm Impressed.

I decided to go into a modest overclocking (800Mhz), I'll try later to go back to the standard 700mhz and see what happends.

I buyed some transformers (2 x 24+24 120VA for Dual Mono) and tested a LM3886 (with an old speaker) I will made a gainclone amp and see how that sound. Ideally my PSU (in is own separated enclosure) will give enough juice for my gainclone or any other DIY AMP that I would like to make.

I will get some of those Valve pre-amps to see if I notice the difference.

Anyway the first thing that I need is one of those Protection Speaker Circuits.

Again, any recomendation ?

thanks, Bye, Diego.

diten on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p553 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p553 Well, an update.

Today Mr. diyinhk contacted me and told me that they have a small qty of the item I need, so I
buyed it, directly, I hope the component be send, being an operation outside of ebay is not that good,
but if other members have buyed and it had more than 1100 transactions I think everything it's gona be allright.

I keep the "research" on the amplifier part, an idea could be one ICE Power 50ASX2 now and a second in some future seem a nice combo
(to my pockets, to a sound test, and finally power). But as usual, in this research I keep crashing with Tripaths and
Mauro Penasa's MyRef RevC (LM3886 based but not in a GC config), thing is, I already have about 6 x LM3886
and a handfull of ultra fast MUR860 diodes. I will keep thinking, anyway now I'm waiting for my receiber and DAC :)

You recently introduced a new component (oh, no, not more, please, :) ) you mention the pre-amp.

In my current setup (the AMP6 from 41hz with a TA2020) uses an attenuator and a relay selector (for input channels), I designed and fabricated all these,
with a home build PCB, I used (and programmed) a PIC 16F628 (IIRC), I used to read Elliot Sound Products a lot, so I learned some good practices, there is no audible sound at MAX power comming out of my speakers with the inputs open. The PIC commands a pair of MCP41010 (i2c digital pot ICs) this are not audio specific but works ok (some minor noise on vol.change, I later discover a similar part from BurrBrown that have a Zero Crossing detection to solve this problem).
Finnaly, I programmed the PIC to learn RC5 remote control commands (from a Phillips TV we had) I'm lazy, so the physical pot was a choice for a brief period of time. And added a very small EI trafo, that way, the PIC is always ON, but the AMP swiched (mute command on TA2020) so, probably it only consumes less than 5 watts in standby mode. (I measued it, to confirm the low power use, but I can recall now what was the correct power usage)

But, you talked about a good preamp, I'm on DIY, I like it a lot, BUT, I think that my country policies on imports (customs) isn't ready for valves, neither do I (I don't know anything about it). I have some 5532 and OPA2134 lying aroud, I made a very nice sounding OPA2134 CMOY. So there are some good recomendations on a pre-amp for my receiver/dac ? I know that until I don't have the AMP is probably futile to recommend something, but just to keep on the research. Elliot Sound Products have some proyects, but again, I don't know what is the most valuable characteristic to look for.

Then again, thanks, Diego.

admin on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p494 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p494 Yeah, I know that attitude and I hate it... I do like to share knowledge, this is one of the missions of this projects...
As for the XMOS... The first one doesn't suits your needs... And the second one is based on a good, but not as good as XMOS, receiver. You're gonna end up with a clone of the Hifimediy or the ODAC... But spending more, so it's not the case... I just suggest a little patience... It will be available again...
Then, I didn't thought you had klipsch!!! So, 25 watts are more than enough I guess... So you can go fine with a single ICEPOWER 50asx2 board... You don't even have to buy a PSU, since it's integrated...
Or you can go with the Abletecs, they are quite similar to ICEPOWERs, I never listened them, but they are regarded to sound pretty good. Here you can find em:

http://www.profusionplc.com/pr.....C0180-2300
http://www.profusionplc.com/pr.....C0240-2300

They cost less than the IPs...

diten on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p490 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p490 Hello again.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it, it's not so common to very knowledgable people being nice with the newbies, thanks.

I send an email to the ebay seller (diyinhk) of the XMOS USB to I2S to ask if I can buy one of those,
until now I didn't get an answer and I now see a new item from him, but I pressume that is not
exactly what I'm looking for:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/XMOS-1.....d=ViewItem

because as I understand this is an XMOS USB 2 SPDIF, but it didn't have (at least I can't see it) the I2S port,
so I can't pair with the Sabre 9023 that I already bought (yesterday :)
worst of things is that the cost is USD 30 more, and I didn't need the case and it didn't have the i2s. shoot.
I think that I will wait then.
(This is an option ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/LJM-Au.....19dde66b0c or there are better options ? )

I have to think a little more about the AMP section, those 125ASX2 looks great (for the specs I mean) but
my pockets are not so full at this moment.

And yes my loudspeakers are 8 Ohms, could be Bi-Amped or Bi-Wired and are pretty efficient (97db/W/m).

Again, thanks.

I know they are little different from stock ICEPOWER, I remember about a trasfo to match the low impedance requirements of Ice Power...
But his loudspeakers are rated 8 ohm, so better go with 125asx2...

Derek on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p476 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p476 The B&O ICE modules are hard to find but not impossible. For US$99 they are hard to beat (I too use ICE power, Mikelangelo, Rowland 201s). Try here but act fast. http://www.classicaudioparts.c.....parts.html

admin on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p462 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p462 Mmm. If you plan to put everything in the Same box, I may suggest you this solution:
If you like class-d amps, you can try with the Hifimediy TK2050, I had many reports of it sounding really well. Or, if you can find it, an Icepower module (I do use two btl 50asx2 modules), they sound amazingly well but are almost impossible to find...
I don't know TAA4100A, so I cannot help you in this way...
Then you can use the PSU linked here:
http://www.raspyfi.com/the-bes.....er-supply/
You can then power the PI, the transport and the Dac (with different voltage Rails).
Then you can use a lcd display for the PI, I will cover the matter in a future post.
You then can have a IR remote control if you wish, I plan as well on writting something on it.
Remember also to use a preamplifier, in the cabinet. A good preamplifier on class D makes wonders, so choose a good one for it. I use a diy tube-jfet preamp, but it's not well documented...
To avoid noises, just make sure you separate the components in the box with metal shields, and do proper cabling paths and relative groundings... But this is up to your experience. This is a tough job, but definetely could be good in the long term...
Let me know what you think about this solution! And if you've other ideas...

diten on Asking for recommendations. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p458 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/asking-for-recommendations/#p458 Hello, I'm Diten from Argentina.

Until now, I listen music with my actual audio chain:
NAS -> Western Digital TV Live -> (HDMI TV - Analog Out) -> DIY 41hz Amp6 (old one with Tripath 2020) - Klipsch RF62 II.

My chain seems unbalanced, I'm somewhat comfortable with my AMP6, it's only 25watt/channel (less actually 'cause speakers are 8Ohms) , so I was thinking to upgrade to the 41hz AMP9 based on TAA4100A, this kit have 4 outputs, max 80Watts each (~50w/channel@<0.03THD+N), and I could use in biamping mode. (I don't know if vertical or horizontal).

Doing some research on what amp I should buy and googling for amps, preamps and raspberry pi that I crashed with this wonderful project, the Raspyfi.

So, I'm here reading about digital audio chains (streams ?), and things like 24bits/192kHz. I2S, and the like, so I dig it.

For what I have read til now, for a rational budget and big increase in quality, seems like the Xmos2 + Sabre 9023 is the winner choice, but
the guy that sells the XMOS-2 is out of stock. The HiFimeDIYSabre USB DAC 2 is there, is cheaper and is all the hardware that I need in one box (if I get things right), but is a lower choice in sound quality.

So, what should I do ? wait for the XMOS ? or buy the HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC2 ?
I'm probably (BIG IF) putting all in one cabinet ( Raspberry Pi, DAC, small toroid and BIG toroids, the amp and probably an Arduino (only the ATMega328) for IR input channel control, ADC to raspi inteface, leds and small lcd display). So I'm looking for a long term decision, Putting it all together depends if there is too much noise, I would probably build separate cabinets.

Finally, there are better options (power/quality/economy/ease of DIY) that the AMP9 ?

Sorry for my long post, and my bad english. Thanks in advance, Diten
