If you login to your pi and type in amixer what do you see?

Also if you do a dmesg do you see anything like this?

[ 3.182812] usb 1-1.3: new high-speed USB device number 4 using dwc_otg
[ 3.304052] usb 1-1.3: New USB device found, idVendor=20b1, idProduct=2009
[ 3.322550] usb 1-1.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber
=0
[ 3.332101] usb 1-1.3: Product: DIYINHK USB Audio 2.0
[ 3.357978] usb 1-1.3: Manufacturer: DIYINHK
[ 3.888784] udevd[155]: starting version 175

If you see those it has detected some hardware.

What I found when I first ran up my sabre dac (same as with the build here) was that I had connected the wires to the output the wrong way around, you have to be really careful with that.

Do you have a volt meter? If so connect it to one of the outputs from the speaker terminals does it get anything?

Finally what I found was the sabre dac did not work at all without a juicy power supply it is not entirely the voltage but the amps make sure the amps coming out of your battery are also correct.

Just a couple of steps. Your system will sound really good when it goes mine does :)

HTH :)

kumasan on building "my reference dac" - but not working http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/building-my-reference-dac-but-not-working/#p1373 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/building-my-reference-dac-but-not-working/#p1373 hi, i've tried to build the reference dac as described in the articel on this site. what I did was

# ordered the DAC 42192 and the xmos2 to i2s
# made an i2s cable with matching output to input wiring - most wires must be crossed to match pins
# made a check of the cabling using an ohm meter messuring on the solder points on the backside of the pcb - making sure every connection did match and that there was not short circuits
# made some rca connections and hooked them to my stereo
# hooked the xmos2 to my raspberry
# powered the dac using a 12v battery i'm usually using for my class d-amp
# powered up the raspberry and started a song

..... and nothing happend utterly silence ... ok ....

# with the xmos2 i ordered another dac es9023 and a flat cable with matching connector - all bought from diyinhk
# hooked it up

.... again silence

# tried to install the xmos2 on the win 7 pc to see if the pc will recognize the device
# got an device could not be detected message
# received advice from diyinhk to allow unsigned drivers
# ... did that but the device could not be detected

now i like to know if the xmos2 is actually working or not.

can anyone tell me

# how to test if the xmos2 is working?
# how to test if the dacs are woking even if the xmos2 is not working?
# any other advice to help me with this one?
