If you don't, use a nas.
For turning it off, just unplug the power cord Laugh
It's not gonna harm it in any way, don't worry.
Or just connect to it via ssh and type:
halt

but this doesn't turn it off completely...

mpeg2 on Shutdown http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/shutdown/#p255 Everything else http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/everything-else/shutdown/#p255 I'm new to the Raspberry Pi (and this type of computer). Thought the Raspyfi project would be a good start. I'm going to put together something to run into an audio system (not sure yet whether to use networked or local drives, will experiment). There will be significant periods where this system will be sitting unused (weeks) & it seems like powering it off during that time would be appropriate.

However, simply turning off the power doesn't seem like the right thing to do. Should some kind of orderly shutdown be done? How best to do so for a headless system?

Suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Rich
