From RaspyFi http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/giveaways-news-thoughts-from-raspyfi/ralink-rt5370-drivers-broken-in-beta/#p288 I've solved this problem by adding this to /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://mirrordirector.raspbian...../raspbian/ wheezy main contrib non-free rpi
then
sudo apt-get update
then
sudo apt-get install firmware-ralink
I don't know the brand of the WiFi dongle (cheapie off Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Min.....1003100768) but the chipset is Ralink RT5370. It works quite nicely plugged directly into the Pi usb, no need for a hub.
I think someone else on this forum was having trouble with this chipset too, but it's all working well now!
I've messed up the permissions somewhere so that mpd is unreachable after boot and requires
sudo /etc/init.d/mpd restart
before mpd starts responding to client requests. I'll look into this further and post the outcome, but for now I have RaspyFi music in my workshop. Now even fewer reasons to come in to the house!!

From RaspyFi http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/giveaways-news-thoughts-from-raspyfi/ralink-rt5370-drivers-broken-in-beta/#p279 Started playing with the Beta, but only got as far as setting up the WiFi. It seems as though everything is ok with lsusb and lsmod but the WiFi dongle is for all purposes dead. I'm not familiar enough with Linux to reinstall the drivers. I've gone back to RC2 for the time being, but missing that wonderful web ui and other stuff I haven't yet tried!
Has anyone else had this problem? I can post the results of lsmod and lsusb if that helps in the diagnosis.
