If it would not turn up then consider using a Y cable, connected to an external power supply. Or, to make it simplier, a powered usb hub. I really recommend you to use a fat32 formatted drive. Let me know!

I tried yet another thumbdrive and it worked. Interesting. Sounds good to.

Now I hope the external hdd I was planning on using will work.

Consider it a guarded step forward.

Hiro666 on Can't get USB drives to be recognized http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/raspyfi-install-and-troubleshooting/cant-get-usb-drives-to-be-recognized/#p114 RaspyFi install and troubleshooting http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/raspyfi-install-and-troubleshooting/cant-get-usb-drives-to-be-recognized/#p114 Simple instructions to follow but no matter what I do, I cannot get a USB drive to be recognized. I have tried multiple thumbdrives as well as a powered HDD. When I log into my RPi and type "fdisk -l" I get nothing. If I type "mount -a" I get a message that only root can do that. I have also tried powering my RPi various ways with various USB/micro cords and AC adapters.

I'm at a lost though I am a Linux noob so I wouldn't be surprised if it is some simple thing I am overlooking.

One other thing, I don't mean to mention "competition" but I did install squeezeplug and got everything working except USB sound out which is why I wanted to try RaspyFi. I like the idea of a stripped down distro who's main purpose is to serve quality fidelity via USB.

Any ideas?
