Mpd needs 777 access permissions to the library, if it hasn't it doesn't work properly. Since mpd is out way before you started feeling unsecure, take it or leave it.

Ok, thx ... I leave it.

Mpd needs your share has 777 access... So full write and read permissions, for users and groups...

Why ??? Horrible .... everybody are able to delete or doing other bad things. Not the GNU/Linux Way. Surprised
Do the devs plan to change it ?

On my smb-server has raspify's mpd nothing to write, only root has such permissions .

Here, some more information about smbmount for user pi on raspyfi ...

pi@raspiveranda:/var/lib/mpd/music/NAS$ ls -l
total 0
drwxr-s--- 1388 pi users 0 Aug 30 19:49 foldermusic
pi@raspiveranda:/var/lib/mpd/music/NAS$ ls -l foldermusic/zz-top/
total 563560
-rwxr-x--- 1 pi users 3297279 Jan 17 2004 01 - I Thank You.mp3
-rwxr-x--- 1 pi users 2865152 Jan 16 2004 01 - Waitin For The Bus.mp3
-rwxr-x--- 1 pi users 3358720 Jan 16 2004 02 - Jesus Just Left Chicago.mp3

GNU-Linux on Fail to generate the Database for a Network Connection http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/raspyfi-install-and-troubleshooting/fail-to-generate-the-database-for-a-network-connection/#p1063 RaspyFi install and troubleshooting http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/raspyfi-install-and-troubleshooting/fail-to-generate-the-database-for-a-network-connection/#p1063 The Share on my Samba-Server is mounted in RaspyFi and I am able to look in the share with cd and ls.
command mout shows all ok:
//ipaddresssambaserver/musik on /mnt/NAS/sambashare type cifs (rw,relatime,vers=1.0,sec=ntlm,cache=strict,unc=\\ipaddresssambaserver\musik,username=user,uid=0,noforceuid,gid=0,noforcegid,addr=ipaddresssambaserver,unix,posixpaths,serverino,acl,rsize=2048,wsize=2048,actimeo=1)

If I want to update the Database I get a failure in mpd.log:
Sep 15 18:47 : update: Failed to open directory /var/lib/mpd/music/NAS/sambashare: Permission denied
... but looking in Terminal with cd and ls was possible !

The User on my Samba-Server I connected with, has no write permissions. But when I use a User with write permissions, the failure is the same.
