right, I forgot to re-#ing the software mixer line in mpd.conf, so my problem was not really solved, I only thougt so.
But now it works, thanks again.
If I got you right, your range Starts with silence at ~75% and full speed at 100%; in this case I´ve got the same prob and no solution so far, but I´m working on it.

As for the hardmixer edit the mpd.conf as follows:

audio_output {
type "alsa"
name "Usb Dac"

mixer_control "DIYINHK Clock Selector" # optional
mixer_index "1" # optional

The only issue I have is that the volume ranges only from 100% to 85%, so I have only few step to adjust it... I'm looking for a solution... Let me know!
The hardmixer is a GIANT STEP FORWARD for quality... So everyone is advised to use this instead of software (if you need volume control...)

Problem solved.
Just needed a reboot I was too busy listening to grant it.

I´m using alternatively (and only one connected at a time) an ODAC and a XMOS/Sabre DIY combo (Thanx again Michelangelo, you rock!)

Volume of the ODAC can be controlled via MPaD, Volume of the combo not. Shouldn´t that be possible, too?
USB fix is installed, all 3 mixer related lines in mpd.conf are #ed.
If I un-# the software-mixer line, it´s working, but of course that´s not what I want.
un-#ing the hardware -mixer line dos not help at all. (Of course after re-starting mpd)
sudo alsa-mixer shows 2 output volume bars at 100 %.
