Hmm...
the raspberry pi and hdd are connected to a powered usb hub (5v/4a power supply - should be powerful enough), the hdd only needs 1,5 watt (max) (WD5000LPVT). But it could also be a mpdroid problem.

Do you know how much power the raspberry pi rev.2 delivers via usb ? I'm going to build a samba server and I want to connect two of those hdds (they need together max 640mA).

Thanks
Marco

Marco, when I built a pi powered nas, this came out as a disaster. I got several sd corruptions, hd's stopped working suddenly. I hope you'll have a better luck, but I suggest you a different platform to build your nas... An old laptop works surely better...

I know this is a low power drive. The next day, identical setup and there were all sorts of drive problems (stuttering audio, songs not being found in the database etc). I plugged in a usb powered hub, but the drive wouldn't work through it. My usb hub is a Ritmo cheapie, only meant for flash memory sticks, keyboard and mice, I think. Not HDD's. If you use HDD's that are in their own box with their own power supplies, you should be right.

Some internet stuff I read says that the whole pi setup needs an amp or so, and the pi requires about half of that. The usb sockets are only rated for 100mA, even though you can get more out of them. Sorry, I read all this on a page I can't find right now. But if you google "Raspberry pi power" you'll get lots of information.

ps just tried running the raspyfi from the usb slot on the home theatre setup. Powered up OK, but made a lot of low level rumbling sound come out of the subwoofer when the SD card drive was being accessed. So back to its own power supply, which I was hoping to remove.

I have a problem with my system. I'm using a raspberry pi with rc2, odac, mpdroid app and an external usb hdd (fat32). After testing my systems about four times I couldn't play some songs. I connected the external hdd to my notebook and some songs are no more available there are also some files which raspyfi created.

This is how it looks like before the testing sessions

And this after the testings

I don't know what happened..
