For Spotify i use musicbox pi.
Usb dac's are not supported - so I use a Ligawo hdmi to optical converter and this is not optimal.

Now, the downer is...I have tried every tweak I've read about here to get acceptable performance when streaming from my NAS or with Internet Radio (mtu size 1492/1024/746, ethernet buffers, ext4 commit parameters to reduce writing to SD card, cylinder aligning on a Sandisk Ultra card (the supposed 95MB/sec kind; renice'ing key process; stopping all unused processes/services;options snd-usb-audio nrpacks=1; different ethernet cables etc etc etc ). But no matter what I've tried, the performance is still affected (I presume) by the ethernet/usb contention problems inherent in the Pi's hardware (I using a recent Pi 512ram) ie. regular stutters/glitches/gaps (no popping or speaker/amp unfriendliness though).

I've minimised the problem as far as I reasonably can but WAV playback over the network, I'm sorry to say, is just not acceptable (regular stutters) and although Radio *nearly* gets there every few minutes it hiccups slightly. I can't prove it but I suspect its something to do with the kernel flushing/writing to the SD card. I have commit=120 in fstab and run the exact kernel parameters in the script here:

It "feels" like its a filesystem flushing thing -- when it stutters it sounds exactly the same and this happens regularly every few minutes (lasts for 5-15 secs, then its ok again). The length of time seems to correlate with the commit=value -- the larger I made this, the longer between the hiccups. I can't help but feel this unfortunate hardware issue of the ethernet sharing the usb means ethernet+usb dac is a no go at least until further improvements to the kernel can solve the problem. Because it sounds so good I've decided to copy my NAS's music folder to an external notebook drive and plug that directly into the Pi, using ethernet only for remote control via a web browser, and for radio.

Note I repeat, playback via ram or local copies is fine and sounds just wonderful. I've tried very hard to make this work well. Its sooo close, just sooo darned close. I'm also waiting on a better power supply (the current one IS a bit marginal, only 700ma; I don't want to use an ext. HD until the better 2A PS arrives) and will report back. Its entirely possible I suppose some of my problems might go away with a better PS, as some have reported.

Now some constructive suggestions for the interface (from most to least important to me):

* EAGERLY looking forward to more friendly ram playback functionality. Could be made the automatic mode i.e. ensuring the current/next few songs get copied to and played from ram, transparently, then greatness awaits the Pi (may not please DSD/HiRes freaks though; I'm 99% redbook for now and can fit 5-6 songs in the /run/shm partition)

* when browsing, it would be nice to always have the left arrow back button visible so when in a long scroll list so you can go back without scrolling up;

* when browsing, & at the very bottom of a list of album folders, the bottom 3 actions on the right are obscured and can't be accessed;

* I'd like the option of disabling all extra unused services from the interface (e.g. nfs, airplay, samba etc as I do my own mounts);

* I'd like the option of NOT requiring the "database" at all as I have a basic but effective hierarchical folder system to arrange my music and am happy to browse manually.

Hope this is of some assistance. I would suggest that for people who have ripped their collection to flac or use mp3, so the files are not as large as mine, they should not be put off by anything above. I'm also looking forward to a similar distro on a BeagleBox which does not have these hardware issues of the current Pi.

Work rightout after make the SD boot disc, raspfy was already up and running with my es9018 DAC with a CM6631a interface, using Lan cables.
And i thought i had to go through the pain process of dealing with linux settings in command line mode.
I didn't even check what chips is on my Pi (hynix or others) and work in less than 5mins.

my 2cents of the first impressions @ v1.0:

Pros:
- SQ is not bad at all when compare using windows foobar.
- easy to setup and use, no fussy thing on settings. (probably i'm lukcy)
- both iOS/Android remote work flawlessly ! (love it)
- comes with nice webradio

Cons:
- if it comes with some ftp or some interface to copy file to the player, it will be good. (i know most user have a NAS but maybe some of us like me, which doesn't have an NAS) i knew more service running may cause audio degrade (can it be overcome?)
- hardward volume wasn't working, only software control is working.
- my local language characters (traditional chinese) wasn't show up properly in playlist. (browser show and display is UTF-8 charset)

I'm using the HiFimeDIY Sabre USB DAC and a generic USB WiFi adapter. Both were purchase from eBay ($55 for the DAC and $9 for the WiFi stick).

The audio sounds great - no clicks/pops. The GUI is easy to use. I've added a DLNA renderer (as per instructions on this forum).
Advice to all having reliability problems - plug your USB devices into a powered hub - not directly into the pi.

Suggestion for improvement - limit access to settings pages & provide administrator controls to blacklist abhorrent spouses/kids/guests (you can never have too much control).

To the development team - fantastic, valuable work. You've done something that is making lots of people happy.

Thanks for a great distro for the Pi. I'm a new Pi user and did not have any issues running Raspyfi.

As others have mentioned, I had some teething issues getting my NAS share to mount, but got it going finally. Generally, its a great solution - with a couple of outstanding issues.

My setup consists of a Pi running Raspyfi connected to my A/V receiver via HDMI. The speakers are a pair of vintage Wharfedale 125 W speakers. They sound great.

Outstanding issues:
1. Airplay volume is lower than playing via mpd directly (same as http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/t.....d-airplay/)
2. The name of the product is similar to another website that is in beta at http://www.raspify.com
3. Music skips and clicks when updating a big database (approx. 40 GB)

Feature Request:
1. NFS support
2. It would be nice to have a graphical UI that shows now playing (since I'm connected over HDMI)

Thanks again for the great software. Like I said, in general its a pretty good 1.0 release.

PS1: I got 2 RaspyFi players running 24/7 at home. Airplay works great!
PS2: Kudos to whoever made the Radio Stations Playlist. I found some great stations!

Next is something for new users:
A "first run" slide show, not on the web page. But on the TV monitor using the Linux utility fbi and a little bash (http://www.techrepublic.com/bl.....-possible/). When I am trying something new on the Pi I have a monitor on to see if I need to do anything for the first run. Having a slide-show telling new users how to connect and some other basic info without having to look it up on the web would be a nice feature. Once again an on/off switch is needed, but also giving the option for user slide shows as well. (Think parties, birthdays, nice pictures, advertisements...) Add /path/to/slide/show to samba share to quickly add slides.

On the idea of parties:
Add /mnt/USB to the samba share so friends can add music to the mix.

Thats it. I'm not a coder and PHP perplexes me to no end or I would start hacking away.

On the down side I have noticed that when I make changes to /etc/rc.local and /etc/samba/smb.conf, they might last for a reboot but a shutdown and cold boot result in those changes being lost.

5. In MPDroid, go to settings and make sure it lists the artists as albumartists. Usually these compilation albums have "Various artists" as albumartist and each indiviudual track has its own artist.

I have the feeling the the current release should've been a RC since there are quite a few issues in the current release - but... oh well!

1. Had some serious NAS mount issues at the beginning, but after a lot of trial-and-error, it's now working..
2. In general I am very satisfied with raspyfi - I had some serious issues with squeezeplug sound output on my DAC stuttering from time to time, I have NEVER had to reboot raspyfi in order to get my usb dac to work again, so that is EXCELLENT!

I am not using the WebUI, but MPdroid, I am not sure whether these suggestions relate to MPdroid or Raspyfi;
3. The user interface is fast and genereally easy to use - way better than squeezebox
4. I had some issues with MPdroid not picking up my full library but after a reinstall, it now works... (bug?)
5. I really liked the way The music library was organized in squeezebox in regards to compilations - in MPdroid, I have al artists seperately, but I would really like the artists that are parts of a compilation not to show up, as the artist list gets very overcrowded
6. Missing a "random play" feature that just plays random songs from my full archive (option to exclude specific genres would be appreciated)

Suggestions for future releases:
1. Replaygain support!
2. Better webradio support system-wide - I would like to save the webradio links on the MPdroid server and access these from all my MPD remote controls
3. Support for getting Album Covers from the individual folders (this doesn't seem to work today..)

Working.

Need to play with the webgui to discover what I can do with it, but so far very impressed.

Only slight problem I've noticed so far is a slight click if I swap to a different track when one is playing.

Same here, Boot time on wifi is very slow. I used the raspberry pi with it default linux dist' and it took much less to boot (Say, between 30 seconds to a minute), Now it's more like 3-5 minutes.
