I haven't tried it myself but sounds like it would not just for NAS access to the files but also a hotspot for mpdroid access to control. All still keeping 100% portable since the wifi hd has a battery pack.

After a bit of reading up on the 2 I think the Seagate Wireless Plus is the better solution it seems to have NFS support out of the box where as the Corsair Voyager Air is Samba. Correct me if I am wrong and you are using the Corsair Voyager Air with NFS

The PiHub comes from Pimoroni, a bunch close to the Pi Foundation, and the hub seems well speced. Having a 3A wall wart helps and runs my Pi well enough for it to have had a V-DAC stuck on it to take over music playing in the living room ...

It's a powered USB-hub with an extra usb-port to power the Raspberry Pi and it is especially designed for the Pi. It's the same price as a knock-off 5V 1A usb-adapter. I've already read that cheap adapters can damage the Pi and/or the SD-card. What do you think about this one, since it is cheap but designed to work with the Pi..?

Why not power it from a rechargeable LiFePo battery pack, or even with commercial USB external charger? I would pair this with something like the Pico USB/headphone amp and my HD 600 cans.

The pocket drive and Pi can run off an external battery pack, and the Pico has its own integral 30-hour batteries. Everything can recharge from the van 12 volt house battery or ac, hen available.

I also use a Raspberry Pi in combination with the ODAC connected to my AKG K601 headphone. I was also thinking about a linear power supply - but I think if you use a linear power supply you should go directly into the ODAC. The Raspberry Pi only generates zeros and ones - pure digital no analog signal, through a linear power supply those numbers will not gonna change ;)

You can see the ODAC is powered by the 5v via USB, but the 5v are regulated to 1,8v and 3,3v. If you use another power supply e.g. you buy one http://www.aqvox.com/usb-power_en.html

The new power supply will only deliver linear 5 voltage, but has no direct influence to the 1,8v and 3,3v. I don't think the ODAC will benefit that much from a "simple" 5v power supply. The only real benefit is galvanic isolation. Thats just my opinion - maybe some electrical engineer can help you more ;)

I was thinking along similar lines to Marino about a linear power supply. I too am very curious as to the difference it might make. Last year I dived in to Linux with the Voyage MPD/Alix distro/SBC and learnt a lot while having great fun! After I got it running I wondered how it would sound with a battery as a power supply and I cobbled together some parts I had lying around. There is a description over on Computer Audiophile if anyone is interested but essentially it's based on three items readily available from burglar alarm supply stores or dealers. I used a Honeywell transformer to power a power supply/charger board which maintains a charge on a 7Ah 12V gel cell battery while outputting filtered and regulated 12VDC. When AC power is removed from the charger board it instantaneously switches to the battery.

I use it to power the Alix 2D2 and to my ears there is a small improvement when running with the AC disconnected. Even with the AC connected its a linear power supply. So, I was thinking of using a regulator like Marino mentioned above, to get the 12VDC output of my power supply down to 5V and using that on the Raspi. Right now I get more than 8 hours continuous play out of the Alix running on battery only so I'm sure the Raspi would get more!! Was even contemplating using the battery to drive both the Trends amp and the Raspi - that way, with the Muse DAC powered by the Raspi's USB bus I'd have a completely off-the-grid system.

And it sounds pretty well too! In my setup , with Aviano 6 loudspeakers, naim nait5i and ODAC it sounds pretty detailed and overall balanced. My favourite thing is the low end of music, with RaspyFi sounds deeper than my win7 laptop with foobar and kernel streaming.
I just want to know if someone got a good power supply for the raspberry and if he found significant differences. I plan to build a custom power supply with lm 7812 reg, do someone has any idea about it?
What power supply do you guys use? What are the most important things to pay attention when choosing a psu for raspberry pi?
