Still running the earlier build (I hope to try 1.0 beta next week), but I think I've now got the hardware sorted.

The Rega DAC ordered about a month ago has arrived, as has a M2Tech hiFace Two and Chord Prodac S/PDIF cable so I can now connect up without using the synchronous USB.

I'll leave it to run for a few days then have a proper listen. Then on to 1.0 beta :-)

I started with EAC yesterday. Getting a flac copy of World Party's Goodby Jumbo on the NAS alongside the 160kbps mp3 allowed me to do listening comparisions and there was a big difference and it would be worth re-ripping if i was going to stream this way.

This could be a long process.

I'll need to get a few more rips done before I can do a meaningful comparison between streaming and listening to my old CD player. Initial results are the playing direct from the CD is still better, but that might be because I've been listening to the DAC in my Marantz CD player (CD10) for about 20 years and got used to the sound whereas the Rega has been in the house for <24 hours. It might be that the sound is just "different".

Thank you for your kind comments about my system. I bought it all slightly second hand or ex-dem back in the mid 90's and (to my ear) it's a beautifully relaxed sound that I could listen to for hours. Odd to think that the "transport" I'm now using cost a fraction of the price of the interconnects!

Gyp on Raspyfi working in Gloucestershire, England. http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/your-setup-your-sound-your-place-on-hearth/raspyfi-working-in-gloucestershire-england/#p180 Your setup, your sound, your place on hearth http://www.raspyfi.com/forum/your-setup-your-sound-your-place-on-hearth/raspyfi-working-in-gloucestershire-england/#p180 Well, it's not quite worked according to the instructions, but it's working!

QNAP 210 TS-210 connected to Devolo powerline 200AV kit, and from there via an unmanaged 10/100 switch to the main broadband router, and then wirelessly to the little Raspyfi Raspberry Pi.

Hence USB out to a Rega DAC, into a Rotel RHC-10/RHB-10 pre/power amp combination into Kef Reference 105/3 speakers.

Only picked the Rega up today. It's good, but it's already showing up the limitations of the mp3 files that I've got on the NAS. To make this worthwhile I'll have to re rip everything I've got as FLAC :-(
